Haxe Roundup 125

Last week Andy Li started work on improving the Haxe syntax highlighting of Pygments which is used by Github and Bitbucket and he needs your help testing it.

Remember Evoland by Nicolas? Well a preview of the new title screen has been posted.

Adrian has released a forth video of Pole Vaultage, his TIGSource TIGCompo game. Check out the games devlog on TIGSource forum.

A bunch of new libraries have been released in the last week. The Atari Arcade SDK are available from Github by Ken Rogers.

Also released, Exif.hx by Jordan Wambaugh which allows you read JPEG metadata, currently tested on the cpp and neko targets.

Then there’s the Feathers UI type definitions by Mike Almond.

Harfang v0.3, the small web framework for php and neko has been released, check out all details on mailing list.

You can also get the source code of all the games made at GeekParty event last week.

And lastly, the 2D KHA game engine has gone public.

How about some dynamic sound generation in NME?

Also NME gets an introduction on the BlackBerry Developer Blog.

And Joshua Granick presents Cross-Platform games with Haxe NME tomorrow 29th November 2012 in New York.

HaxeFlixel now has a website!

And to finish up, check out the TED video Your brain on video games via Pol Goasdoué

PHP on Google App Engine

Awhile ago I said would show some haXe/php files working on Google App Engine using Quercus open source version.

Well I’m not going to show that because it took me to many hours late last night to figure out how to get Quercus working again.

This is more as a reminder to me if I ever forget how to do this, as I spent 4 hours last night trying to figure it out, and then 10 mins this morning and I figure it all out… idiot. If this teaches any one any thing, dont try thinking when you need sleep :D

Favourite Albums powered by Last.fm and haXe

This is my next FlashDen item, very simple item, calls a php file which returns data in xml format. The php file will connect to Last.fm and grab the users top album list, which unfortunately returns a list of 50, not more no less.

The php file at the beginning will load in a configuration xml file, which controls the php and actionscript. This allows you to state how many albums you want to display. You can display your overall favourites, or from the last 7 days, and 3/6/12 months.

The example above shows my 6 overall favourite albums from Last.fm. If iTunes support is turned on, the php file will create all affiliate links, which are stored in the same xml file as the Last.fm data.

The configuration xml file also has a time limit element which allows you to control how often the php files call the Last.fm API service, which reduces the amount of times you update your files, reduces the work Last.fm has to do, and increase load times for the SWF file, in other words good practice. I’ve set mine to update every 15 minutes, but a more realistic time would be every hour.

I would have liked to make the SWF file through haXe, but all FlashDen items require an FLA file, so I could only use haXe for the php side. Animation is done through Gtween, one of the best tween engines for AS3 in my opinion.

I just hope that FlashDen will accept the file :D
