Andy has detailed some of the new jQuery extern features on his blog.

Mark Knol has taken on the task of documenting Flambe through the unoffical guide. He has already documented an incredible amount, but if you want to help, get stuck in!.

Tong has released HXMPP 0.4.12, available from github and haxelib. Now Haxe 3 compatible.

Matthew Wallace recently made the jump, installing Haxe 3 RC2 on OSX, which broke the
haxe
and
nme
commands and figured out the solution.

Lubos Lenco has written about “how [he] did ads in Haxe NME on iOS” in Castle Siege. It’s also worth checking out his post on implementing ads for Android for your Haxe NME apps.

Amit Patel has written an incredibly detailed guide to hex grids. All the “core algorithms and data structures are in Haxe and compiled down to Javascript”.

Andreas Rønning seems to always get a decent conversation going, this time with his “primary AS3 itches that make [him] run screaming for Haxe”.

He has also released “a few random github updates, all haxelib compatible”, Simple Signal a generic Haxe signal implementation, SLF4HX a port of his AS3 logging framework and MessagingHX a basic global messaging / event dispatch library.

Evan Zenker has released his game created with Haxe. It’s “a fun platformer called Stockholm” and it took him “three months of learning and frustration” but know has a “fairly good grasp of Haxe and NME”. Clever idea ;)

Sam MacPherson has updated his concurrency library by adding a
PooledConnection
class which creates and restarts failed database connections automatically.

Two new tutorials from Game from Scratch, Choosing a Haxe NME game engine and A closer look at the awe6 inverted game framework both going into detail. Definitely worth checking out.

Haxe Roundup 148

The Haxe RC2 seems to have silently been released. You can check changes.txt for the newness.

But the biggest change is that the haxelib reset has taken place, but no one should have really noticed as Jason and Juraj have done an awesome job making the change seamless.

With WWX2013 in 2 weeks, you can checkout who’s speaking and their topics.

Vision Mobile released a report titled Cross-Platform Tools Shootout, comparing Sencha, Appcelerator and others, with Haxe “as [the] clear winner”.

With live coding getting a lot of attention recently, with Light Table and Code Orchestra, David Peek has created a proof of concept live code editing in Haxe - Video.

Andrew has written about NME and Haxe called NME Tile Rendering for Mobile. An incredibly well written post.

Chrome packaged apps recently came out of developer preview, so Tong has already written type definitions for Haxe.

Porter has written his “first article in [his] learning HaxePunk series”.

And I’ll finish with a crazy game called MOSHIMOSHI created with HaxeFlixel. Checkout the gameplay video by Eurogamer to see what it’s about.

Haxe Roundup 147

Ludum Dare 26 Mini Roundup!

Also take a look at more LD26 games made with Haxe.

This would have been useful to lots of people during LD26, Haxe live coding in FlashDevelop with HaxeBuilder.

With WWX13 closing in, new features are being submitted here and there, new Haxe RC2 date has been announced and new libraries, like the first beta release of Cocktail, the HTML / CSS rendering engine written in Haxe.

Christopher Kaster has written about Alfred Haxelib, which adds the ability for Alfred to manage haxelib.

Eugene Veretennikov’s latest work-in progress project is porting “Spine LibGDX 2D animation runtime from Esoteric Software to HaxeNME”.
Or if your using spritesheets and not sure how to get HaxeNME’s
spritesheet
lib working, Dennis Adriansyah Ganda has written “a fast and effective” tutorial.

Haxe Roundup 146

Joshua Granick published a blog post titled “Deploying C++ to JavaScript using Emscripten”. Basically he’s teasing NME folks with a new / alternative way to deploy to web.

As NME continues to move so fast, take a moment to read Emrah Özer’s article on why he moved away from NME to ActionScript / Starling.

Michael Baczynski, author of the amazing polygonal libraries has released his first Android game Creamy Ice using NME and his ZZ rendering library.

Monster Loves You! “was entirely written in Haxe NME” but only outputs to Flash for recompiling with Adobe Air for Steam releases. Andy Moore has written “How to convert an AS3 ANE to Haxe”.

Another game that’s currently on Steam Greenlight, Papers, Please, the “dystopian document thriller” created by Lucas Pope uses Haxe NME.

And the latest Tourette Quest, the game that explores Tourette’s Syndrome by Lars Doucet, was created with Haxe Flixel.

Speaking of Haxe Flixel, it now has it’s own twitter account.

Over on google+, Anthony Ogden has released the source code and art assets for his One Game a Month Fowl Metal Jacket hosted on github.

With the release of SoundAS by Shawn Blais, Andreas Rønning has already ported it to Haxe and it “runs beautifully”.

Haxe Roundup 145

The upcoming WWX event will have Juraj talking about macros and Valerie’s talk is titled “Storytelling with data and Haxe/Neko”.

Joshua Granick has released a demo of Pirate Pigs compiled to WebGL. It looks like it’s compiled through emscripten, the “LLVM to JavaScript compiler”.

Lubos Lenco, creator of Castle Siege, has listed the steps it takes to get your NME app into the Mac App Store.

Jason O’Neil has written a really in-depth introduction to the “new Map syntax in Haxe 3”.

Adrian of Vigeo Games has written about the progress of Crate Collector. Turns out live streaming his dev sessions “was a great motivator” and helped “keep the slack down to minimum”. Pretty useful idea for those of us that get easily side tracked.

Now, I think this is pretty awesome. Eugene Veretennikov, creator of Protohx has recorded his network demo working seamlessly across HTML5, Linux, Android, Flash, Neko and NodeJS.

So we have an in-progress Objective-C target, talk of a python target, a possible Lua target, and now we have an in-progress Rust target. Rust “is a curly-brace, block-structured expression language” by Mozilla.

LoudoWeb has released their new game created with Haxe, Awe6 and ASWing.

Parveen Kumar has written a “Review of Haxe NME for cross platform mobile game development”, talking about its good and bad points.

Haxe Roundup 144

The WWX 2013, the third Worldwide Haxe Conference, is taking place in Paris on May 24th til May 27th, which still has a few tickets on sale, so register soon!

WWX 2013 Official Site

WWX 2013 on Eventbrite

WWX 2013 on Google+ Events

Lars Doucet, Samuel Batista and the HaxeFlixel community have added
BitmapData.threshold
to NME for the CPP target all within a week. Almost as fast as the flash version.

For the non Haxers, how about improving your multi-platform fun by using Haxe, NME and Flambe. Seems to have worked out well for tweetfighter.nl and Nickelodeon.

If you want to get ads into your NME Android app, Lubos Lenco has recently updated his article Haxe NME with ads on Android. Looks easier than you might think.

How about native Facebook support for NME? Or native Twitter support? Hyperfiction the makers of Arkeon, have a bunch of native extensions for NME iOS and Android.

Following the tutorial FlashDevelop with Haxe NME and HaxePunk by Kyle Pulver, your’ll soon be “diving into a whole new world of magic and fun”.

Greg Dove has written about his first time experience with Haxe externs, LeafletJS via Haxe, loving the fact that Haxe 3 outputs “minifier-friendly” code and “that everything is type-checked as you code”.

Simon Richardson has been releasing some interesting code snippets on twitter. Wildcards to curried functions is one of them.

And checkout Andrew’s public alpha game CrateBreaker using NME.

If your an IntelliJ IDEA user, the Haxe plugin now has initial Haxe 3 support thanks to Fedor Korotkov.

And finally is Pazu the next version of NME or a port of NME to Emscripten? Via the HaxeFlixel forum.

Haxe Roundup 143

FlashDevelop has a new dev build available which has smoother Haxe completion - it is amazing.

With the release of Hard-shell Hockey to the Play Store, Allan Bishop has written about his experience, about the good and bad when using NME.

Simon Richardson has web workers and Haxe “running to make parallel function executions” using his actor library. Also checkout the rest of his library funk, it looks pretty sweet.

Justin Donaldson has released a “simple bash script that he uses to switch between Haxe 2 and Haxe nightlies”.

Mutant Labs apparently has “the Leap Motion working in Haxe. Currently uses sockets, but getting nearer to a native extension” for NME.

The TOML, “Tom’s Obvious, Minimal Language” is now supported by Haxe using the library HaxeTOML. Checkout the authors intro post HaxeTOML - The TOML implementation in Haxe.

Mike Stead has released HX Yaml with “JavaScript, Flash and Neko v2 targets currently supported”.

Sam MacPherson has released Haxe Concurrency which contains “thread safe data structures”. It also contains a “fully concurrent server”.

Want to get a 67% - 125% performance boost on top of NME’s drawTiles? Well that’s what the StablexDL library tests report.

Haxe Roundup 142

WWX13, the third annual Haxe Developer meetup has been announced, taking place on May 24th-27th in Paris.

The organisers are looking for speakers. Anything Haxe related is welcome, from beginner friendly topics to the most hardocre topics, just email your proposals to
contact [at] haxe [dot] org
 listing :

your talk title

a short description

and a short bio

Or if you want to hear about a specific topic or from a specific developer, make some noise over at the mailing list.

Jozef Chutka has been busy this week, publishing three posts, the first, second and third detailing his progress setting up Haxe, Echlix and the Samsung TV SDK, then integrating munit and MMVC into the project.

Vadim has created an improved and findable Haxe SVG logo. Thank you!

If your using Haxe NME, then checkout the “fast way for per pixel bitmap manipulation” using
nme.Memory
which supports both Flash and CPP targets.

Tong’s done it again, this time creating Haxe
sys
bindings to inotify. It allows you to “simply monitor various events on files” to handle automatic uploads, guard critical files or just get file statistics. I have an idea for the next project, bindings to libuv.

The guys from Qwok Games have written about Going Native stating how they “picked the right toolset” and how it came through for them.

Richard Janicek has released LevelDB for Haxe/Node, “a high performance key / value store”.

Take a look at the youtube teaser for Cosmoplan the “unique puzzle/action game” made with Haxe NME.

And finally, with FireFox bringing javascript performance closer to native speeds with asm.js, should Haxe add support for it?

Haxe Roundup 141

Florian Hofmann, one of three from Black Goat Games will be presenting Haxe and NME at the next Indie Outpost event happening on April 17th.

Erik Escoffier has ported a delaunay triangulation library to Haxe, with a pretty cool demo. Poly2Trihx is the Haxe port of the poly2tri.

Apparently a small experiment, Franco Ponticelli has created livehaxe, an “automatic compiler for Haxe and other tools”, it “monitors the files in your project and regens the output whenever it detects a change.” Very cool.

Maybe it could become part of the new haxelib that’s under development, maybe as a
haxelib watch
command?

Andy Li has written another excellent post on getting “automated unit testing for Haxe projects” working with Travis-CI.

“Hello, I’m a popcorn fractal…” by Nicolas Barradeau using NME, exported to HTML5. Watch popcorn.

Adrian has Pole Vaultage “merrily hum along on Android. There’s no second player and jump control is easier (frustration level below 9000)”. Watch over on youtube.

Genome2D, the “Stage3D GPU accelerated 2D engine” is coming to Haxe! Apparently it has “increased performance of up to 400% with at least 100%” and “the possibility of HTML5 deployment later on”.

A new tutorial on how to use HyperTouch, the de facto native Android and iOS touch library, with HaxeFlixel.

If you have ever wondered who is part of the NME team, well wonder no longer and meet the team.

Haxe Roundup 140

HaxePunk seems to be getting faster according its BunnyMark port, with 5000 bunnies at 30+ fps. All based on the latest dev branch.

And it seems both the lead devs of HaxeFlixel and HaxePunk, Alexander Hohlov and Matt Tuttle, respectively, might be planning on combining efforts to bring more speed to both projects.

The in progress Objective-C target has successful built the NME PiratePig demo. Head over to the mailing list for a better description and a picture!

Zest3D, the cross platform 3D engine for Ouya, iOS, Android, BlackBerry, PC, Mac and more “will be coming to Haxe soon”.

Lars Doucet posted over at HaxeFlixel’s forum how he has “Visual C++ debugging the CPP target” working, and for the adventurous people, the project files.

How about this for a discussion, Andreas Rønning talks about how he is “baffled and frankly a little disappointed in the lack of support for Haxe NME among Flash Developers”, their reaction to Loom, “issues with Unity3D’s 2D performance” and more. Take some time to read all of the <s>69</s> 70 comments.

This looks crazy, NME WorldBuilder the “ultimate tool for making crossplatform games” and with a huge feature list. <s>While NME looks down</s>, checkout the youtube video for 14 minutes of Nape goodness.

Theres one more NME UI framework to add to the list, Zajac which provides the “ability for styling over CSS”, supported targets are CPP, Neko and Flash and its been tested on iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows and Flash.

StablexUI, one of the first? NME UI frameworks, is now able to create loops in xml. Also a new sample game has been released, Ladybird, where all the objects are StablexUI widgets.

This is bound to be useful, protohx a “crossplatform implementation of Google’s Protocol Buffers” has been released on haxelib.

With Haxe 3 possibly being released at the end of April, the future of haxelib has come up, so it’s a good time to put your ideas forward. Jason O’Neil has received the Haxe Foundations approval to take charge. There’s also a road map for the new Haxelib.

This looks awesome, planetize.me, the 3D space simulation game, using Haxe PHP and Flare3D.

Thanks to those who emailed me updates, articles etc. More please!

Haxe Roundup 139

If you’ve checked out Haxe 3’s Abstract Types, take a look at this short and simple example by the macro master
Juraj Kirchheim.

Andy Li has written a great article called “HXML tricks every Haxe user should know”.

The Haxe Flixel tutorials keep coming, this time showing off the “Mouse Interaction Manager”. Touch events should work but they are currently untested.

Alexander Hohlov tweeted that Haxe Flixel’s dev branch has “initial support for texture atlas loading” thanks to Sergey Miryanov.

Jaroslav Meloun has ported Senocalur’s TransformTool (Github: jarnik / transformtool, License: unknown) to Haxe. Currently tested Flash and Neko targets.

Tong has once again had a late night - porting nekoboot to Haxe.

François Nicaise continues to share his experience from making Strange Masks, this time for the “NME folks”, called “Speed”.

Grunt Haxe (Github: Fintan / grunt-haxe, License: MIT) now works with GruntJS v0.4.

This is brilliant news, it looks like BlackBerry is going to contribute to NME.

Suat Eyrice has created and open sourced NME Webview (Github: SuatEyrice / NMEWebview, License: unknown) for NME’s iOS and Android targets.

The IntelliJIDEA Haxe plugin has just been updated with code folding.

Thanks to Chris and ProG4mr for sending news and links ;)

Head over to the release notes to download Haxe 3.

Take some time to read about the new Haxe 3 features

Then take a look at the Haxe 3 Migration Guide and hx2compat for a easier transition.

Cauê Waneck has just announced “that Haxe 3.0 will have enhanced support for native Java libraries!”. Read the announcement because it won’t work with the Haxe 3 RC build.

The Humble Bundle Mojam 2 has come and gone, but team Grapefrukt made Tektonik with Haxe NME. How about a donation if you haven’t already?

Evoland by Nicolas Cannasse and Sebastien Vidal has been greenlit on Steam!

François Nicaise has written about the new features, new devices, and future information he’s going to be releasing about Strange Masks.

Christopher Kaster has released nme-tiled 0.2 (Github: Kasoki / nme-tiled, License: MIT, Haxelib: nme-tiled) Checkout his post listing all the new stuff and future features.

Shoe Box has posted about NativeMirror (Github: shoebox / inthebox, License: unknown), the “easier way to make JNI / CPP calls from Haxe”. I’m definitely going to be using this.

Andy Li has posted about “improving Haxe sysntax highlighting support in Pygments used by both Github and Bitbucket”.

Use HaxeFlixel (Github: Beeblerox / HaxeFlixel, License: MIT, Haxelib: flixel) and want the latest dev version? Take a look at the post “Using the Development Version of HaxeFlixel”.

Varomix DaGreit has released a new video tutorial on how to create a custom button in HaxeFlixel.

Tong has updated “his autocomplete scripts for Haxe and Haxelib”.

You can also keep an eye on any upcoming features that he’s planning.

Andy Li continues to improve the Haxe syntax highlighting of Pygments, used by Github and others. But while they take their time updating, Andy created a chrome extension which does it for them!

Philippe Elsass blogged What should Adobe do to save AIR, concluding that they should check out NME.

NME-Tiled (Github: Kasoki / nme-tiled, License: MIT, Haxelib: nme-tiled) has had a bunch of updates in the last week. Breaking changes, license change and more.

Check out the new tutorial over at gamedev.tutsplus.com called How to Learn Haxe and NME by Porter.

Alfred Dickson has release a HTML5 shooting demo created with CreateJS and Haxe.

It looks like Sophie’s Drawings by Emiliano Angelini is coming to the BlackBerry Playbook.

Remember, Haxe 3 RC is due in 4 days. Take some time to read the Haxe 3 Migration Guide, also some new features like Pattern Matching, String Interpolation and more.

Haxe Roundup 136

Haxe 3 RC has had its roadmap published. You have until the 17th to submit new features, with the release aiming for the 24th of Feburary.

And for those of you who want to dive into the new features of Haxe 3, checkout the manual which is being updated regularly as the release date closes in.

Steve McIntyre has written a “no-fluff guide on how to set up Haxe and NME in FlashDevelop”.

Not on windows, thinking of using Sublime Text? Well Varomix DaGreit has posted a video tutorial on how to get sublime setup with Haxe and HaxeFlixel.

Maybe you use Vim, then take a look at Justin Donaldson’s Vaxe “a modern, modular vim mode for Haxe”, which recently got support for NME projects.

François Nicaise has posted a new article about his experience publishing Strange Masks called My Indie Nightmare, publishing Multi OS Games Part 2.

If you use HaxeFlixel, 9 slice scaling has been added to Lars Doucet’s personal UI library. You can see a screen shot of the UI library in use.

Theres also a new video tutorial about hacking the HaxeFlixel preloader.

Nick Holder has written a post about creating Tiny Text Worlds, his prototype of a text adventure engine.

Do you remember from last week’s roundup, StablexUI, YAHUI and Basis? Well another UI library has been discovered, Guise which is “a GUI library for Haxe supporting native and non-native controls” written by Tom Byrne.

Haxe Roundup 135

NME 3.5.5 has been released, more of a maintenance release than anything, but with Native and WebGL GLSL shader examples.

Two new UI libraries that all the NME folks should checkout :

YAHUI is “a skinnable NME user interface designed to be used out the box and give a native user experience”.

StablexUI is a “macro driven UI engine for NME. All platforms are supported”.

And one more for all the NME people, you can now add / edit tutorials and docs at nme.io!

Evoland, the follow on from Evoland Classic has a write-up on VentureBeat.

Another Haxe game that has received great publicity is Strange Mask, which has been reviewed by a well known French Magazine - Canard PC.

Jordan has a new release of TJSON, the tolerant json parser.

Jon Borgonia is presenting at the OUDL about Lua and Haxe on February 18th.

Flambe 2.2 has been released, fixing important Flump bugs, and now comes with an experimental WebGL renderer!

This is really awesome, Tong has a working Native Client build toolchain for HXCPP. You can get it from github.

This is something that everyone should keep an eye on, Basis which has “the goal to provide cross platform access to native UI components”.

Is Haxe Memes a sign of Haxe’s increasing popularity?

Haxe Roundup 134

Matthew Wallace has released his first haxelib project, BBMVC. Very cool.

Matthew has also posted, How to embed assets in Haxe, like in ActionScript.

Alexander has tweeted this excellent article about using Nape and Haxe Flixel together, written by ProG4mr.

Alexander has ported BunnyMark to Haxe Punk, to see what performance gains Haxe Punk has to offer since its v2 release, but he needs your help to improve it.

NME 3.5.4 has been released, with more improvements to the HTML5 target and freeing up CPU cycles for native apps.

Promhx, a promise library has been released. The author, Justin started an interesting thread over at the Haxe Communities page, which you should join if you haven’t already.

[Fr] Here’s the next big app being made with Haxe and Cocktail, MYTF1 with 500000 simultaneous users expected.

If you’ve never heard of the Cocktail Library, its a crossplatform, embeddable HTML renderer.

Flump v1 has been released! Now fully supported by Flambe the Haxe game engine.

Check out this article from TheNextWeb about MYTF1, the Haxe Cocktail app.

Haxe Roundup 132

Juraj, author of the amazing tinkerbell library, has shown some code for his new library tinx_node.

How about an embeddable haxe http server? Apparently all hacked together in one night! by tong.

Hugh, the original? creator of NME has the CPP target and NME running at 60fps on the Raspberry Pi!

With an Haxe 3 release candidate apparently due for the end of January / early February, Haxe SVN just got Array comprehension.

François the developer behind Strange Masks thats built with NME, has several new posts worth checking out, in game video’s, resources and reviews.

Christopher has written about NME Tiled : NME + TILED = <3.

If your using FlashDevelop, then checkout the handy templates created by Mark Knol.

If you use Flambe, version 2.1 has been released!

And to end this weeks roundup, Mike Cann has updated his Chrome extension PostToTumblr, which is used by 30k+ people. Lets go and vote it up! Then play it :)

Nicolas is presenting Haxe at the mloc.js this February 14th - 16th in Budapest.

You’ve heard of HxSL? Then checkout the article on using HxSL to create 2D filters/shaders.

With NME 3.5.2 already out, checkout this post. It talks about the upcoming paid services, the new features such as OpenGLView and a new project format.

How about some new libraries?

Hoo is a library that enables operator overloading in Haxe, also check out hxop as an alternative.

Hx-async is a library that makes async programming in Haxe easy. Take a look at the detailed intro post.

Now how about some job offerings, checkout the posts for Massive Interactive and Game Pill.

Grant Mathews recently converted a code base of around 5000 line from ActionScript 3 to Haxe. Here’s what he learned.

Checkout the latest development post for Strange Masks, the innovative puzzle game that blends concentration games with dungeon crawlers.

A couple of new tutorials have been released, Getting started with Haxe, NME and FlashDevelop and Getting started with HaxeFlixel & FlashDevelop.
